Awareness & Diversity💜

Here you can find our WhatsApp channel, where we regularly share solid political events in Heidelberg whenever we come across something. Feel free to subscribe :)

Awareness

What is awareness and why do we want it?

Awareness means mindfulness and responsibility in social interaction. It is about creating a framework in which all people feel safe, respected, and welcome, regardless of gender, background, sexual orientation, disability, body, age, or cycling experience.

Awareness structures are not about control, but about support and clear shared values:

  • Awareness persons are points of contact during events or rides. They listen, take affected people seriously, and help when boundaries have been crossed, verbally, physically, or emotionally.
  • Awareness also means prevention: We raise awareness of discriminatory or abusive behavior and promote interaction based on consent, consideration, and self reflection.
  • Awareness requires clear concepts: It must be defined who can be contacted within the community, how situations are handled, and which steps follow in the case of an incident, a boundary violation, or a conflict.

This protects everyone involved, affected people, awareness persons, and the community itself, because it provides orientation, creates commitment, and ensures confidence in how to act.

We need awareness structures because equality, inclusion, and mutual respect do not emerge automatically. Awareness builds trust, strengthens community, and ensures that our sport and our scene are accessible to everyone, not only to those who already feel safe. What exactly our awareness concept will include is something we want to develop together in the WA group safe.space.lab💜.

Diversity

We want to make our road cycling community more diverse, more conscious, and more open. Cycling connects people, but real community only emerges when different perspectives are visible and respected. That is why we want to actively include FLINTA people, POC, queer voices, feminist positions, and politically interested people, so that everyone can truly participate.

From now on, we meet every first Friday of the month, the location will be announced in the WhatsApp community, to exchange ideas, collect input, and bring new impulses into the community. In addition, we publish monthly recommendations for demonstrations, events, films, books, and initiatives that encourage reflection and participation. We believe that this project can become self sustaining, driven by you, your curiosity, and your engagement.
